Portrait flat view of the Cranes yoga mat — a Japanese-style painting of five red-crowned cranes in walking and preening poses on a golden-ochre ground, one crane bowing at the top with four more below
The Cranes yoga mat laid flat on a grey area rug in a cozy neutral living room — cream sofa, wooden furniture, woven pouf, and a tray with candles and incense nearby; all five red-crowned cranes visible across the golden-ochre surface
Corner of the Cranes yoga mat folded back to reveal the black non-slip underside, with the golden-ochre printed surface and a red-crowned crane visible at the roll
The Cranes yoga mat laid out horizontally — five red-crowned cranes spread across the golden-ochre background: one standing at left, two interacting in the center with wings spread, one ruffling feathers, one bowing low at right
A hand holding the tightly rolled Cranes yoga mat by its black carrying strap against a white wall with dramatic grid-pattern window shadows
The Cranes yoga mat partially unrolled from the right, showing two cranes clearly on the golden-ochre surface — one standing tall at left, two interacting at center — with the black rolled end visible at right

Five red-crowned cranes by Maruyama Ōkyo, Japan's master painter, 1733–1795. One lifting off. Four in varied states of motion and stillness on warm gold ground. In yogic tradition, crane pose — bakasana — demands exactly what Ōkyo captured: weight shifting forward, balance suspended, absolute focus.

In Japanese culture, the crane represents longevity, good fortune, and fidelity. The tradition of folding paper cranes gained its deepest meaning through Sadako Sasaki, whose story after the Hiroshima bombing became a symbol of peace and resilience. The bird endures.
